This gala is a celebration of Myra Wolfgang's legacy, and an opportunity to lift up individuals and organizations in Detroit that are fighting for the just future we all deserve, bolstering the continued work of the Detroit Jews for Justice community. Who is Myra?
Myra Wolfgang was a feminist labor leader in Detroit, who was given the title, the 'Battling Belle of Detroit.' She earned this nickname through her work as the chair of the Coalition of Labor Union Women, a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the chief executive officer of Local 705. In memory of Myra, and the long history of Jewish progressives in Metro Detroit, we will celebrate work—both within and outside the Jewish community—that is moving us towards a better world.
