In the fall of 2019, I went to a Shabbat dinner and a friend pulled me aside to tell me about an opening at Detroit Jews for Justice and encouraged me to apply.
Who knew what a blessing the simple act of showing up for a community gathering had to offer me? DJJniks know.
Time and time again, the DJJ community has shown me what community means. Community means showing up and stepping in. Community means leading with your heart. It means consistency.
Whether it was coming to weekly Purim rehearsals, prep meetings for Zooms, training and co-working for end-of-year fundraising or doing the heavy lifting to produce a heart warming virtual Myra Wolfgang Awards; DJJ has shown me what a bonded community of leaders can accomplish.
Thank you DJJ! I leave with a heart full of joy and gratitude for a community that leaves me in awe of their power to enact change.
Next Friday, July 23rd will be my last day with Detroit Jews for Justice as the Organizer for Culture and Resources, but it won't be my last day as a member of the community.
This isn't so much a goodbye as a see you around!
I am moving over to one of DJJ's organizing partners and 2021 Myra Wolfgang Awards honoree Detroit Disability Power, as their new Communications Director. As much as I cherish the community of leaders, the staff and the culture of Detroit Jews for Justice, this is an opportunity for me to grow and contribute to a cause that is close to my heart. Did I mention my birthday is July 25th?
