ANNOUNCEMENT: Support Lisa’s leadership journey by investing in our work today!

To the DJJ community,

As 2025 comes to a close, I’m reflecting on the work that DJJ has done over the past year. From increasing our number of leader organizers, working actively with partners to prevent unjust detentions of our immigrant neighbors, to hosting numerous events like the Myra Wolfgang Awards and Havdallah in the Park, what our small organization has done is impressive –– especially as we continue to grow amid an unpredictable landscape for nonprofits.

But this work has not come without challenges. As I’ve reflected on this past year and what’s to come in 2026, what’s become clear is that I need to take a small step back. That’s why come January I will be transitioning into a new role as DJJ’s interim development and operations director.

What does this mean for DJJ? Lisa Tencer, our current co-director for organizing, will become interim executive director. And I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be continuing to fundraise and provide administrative support to our kick-ass team of organizers.

We’re so grateful for the leadership that Lisa has demonstrated since joining the team and I have full confidence in her ability to lead DJJ moving forward. Lisa is a brilliant, visionary leader. Her background in policy and organizing will be powerful assets to her in her role. I can't wait to see what she's able to do!

Getting to this point of transition has been an incredibly thoughtful process that brought together me, Lisa, and our board of trustees. We’ve spent a great deal of time planning how we will shift our roles and responsibilities while also ensuring that our staff and community are well supported.

As I move into the next chapter of my role with DJJ, I’m excited for Lisa to be taking on this responsibility. Let’s start 2026 off on a successful note––I’m asking everyone to donate $36 today as a way to congratulate Lisa and ensure she’s set up to lead us effectively.

Reach out to me at [email protected] if you have any questions. I couldn’t be more grateful to be in this work with you all. Let’s continue to be in community together in this fight for a more just future for everyone.

In solidarity and strength,

Allie Zeff, Interim Director of Operations and Development, Detroit Jews for Justice
