Join us for a talking points training on water justice, facilitated by DJJ leaders and Jenny Teed of Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network. You'll learn tips on how you can talk to your friends, congregations, and representatives about:
- Our regional water crisis and specifically water shutoffs in Detroit
- The human and public health impact
- Why Metro Detroit Jewish community should care about this issue (and why you care)
- Why this is a Jewish issue
- How to join our work for state-level policy solutions
We are hosting this training in place of our regular Third Tuesday General Meeting. We will still discuss our normal monthly business - fundraising, Festival of Rights, and other issue updates - for a brief portion of the meeting.
TIME: Schmoozing and snacks starting at 5:45pm. The training will start promptly at 6:15pm. (NOTE: This is earlier than our normal start time of 6:30 because we have a lot of content to cover in a short time! Please be prompt to get the most you can out of this training!)
LOCATION: The Mondry Building located at 15000 W 10 Mile Rd in Oak Park, 48237
ART-MAKING PARTY: Also -- a super fun art-making party will immediately follow the training! If you can stick around for at least 45 minutes or longer, please do to help us make incredible justice-themed art for our Hanukkah Festival of Rights. All levels of skills welcome -- you'll have specific instructions and art leaders to guide you. Extra points if you bring used glass jars we can use! (With no labels or lids.)
New to DJJ? Welcome! We ask you to join us starting at 5:30 so we can meet you and give you a quick intro to DJJ.
