Last month, Rabbi Silverman from the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue spoke at a water justice press conference, organized by the Faith Action Committee of the People's Water Board. Before the press conference, faith leaders and congregants gathered by the riverfront, where Rabbi Silverman lead us in a hand-washing ritual, passing the washing cup through the crowd. You can watch her remarks below and read the transcript here.
After the water ceremony, 50 clergy gathered at the Spirit of Detroit for the press conference, speaking passionately against water shutoffs. Each clergy described how, based on their faith tradition, it is morally reprehensible to deprive people of water and offered words of action to the press and crowd. Rabbi Silverman brought in the weekly Torah portion to lift up the power of water in the creation story. You can watch her remarks to the press below and read the transcript here.
