Purim Reflections

Our 4th Annual Purim Extravaganza happened last week -- check out some folks' reflections here.

From Ashley Schnaar of the Jewish Communal Leadership Program:
Purim Extravaganza last week was my first DJJ event and I'm so glad I came. The event was not what I expected in the best of ways. The attendees were so much more diverse than the hipster millennials I assumed would dominate the space. Rather, the spiel performers and attendees included many youngsters and older adults alike. People were so friendly, I got to see some faces I hadn't seen in a while and meet new people as well! The spiel was also thought-provoking and funny. It was themed around social justice in Detroit, with Dan Gilbert playing the role of Haman. As a frequent patron of "Little Pita Arena" and the "Pretentious Ramen Hut",  the spiel made me consider my role in the problematic development of the city.

From Jackson Koeppel, DJJ leader and Executive Director of Soulardarity
The spiel was a masterpiece! It was incredible to see such complex social issues brought to life with art, humor, and ferocity. It's events like this where we build energy and solidarity for the fight.
