DJJ Signed the People's Resolution

When our democracy is under attack by hateful forces of systemic oppression, Bend the Arc Jewish Action draws the bold lines in the sand that we need to keep each other safe. DJJ recently signed onto BtA's People’s Resolution Rejecting Antisemitism, Islamophobia, Racism, and Xenophobia. Check out this blog for the resolution's full text.

Whereas, the American people deserve a Congress that does not demonize any of our communities, in actions, rhetoric or policy;

Whereas, we deserve a Congress whose members are willing to take on the long-term work of defeating antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia, and all forms of bigotry in their words and deeds;

Whereas, while we address these long-term challenges, we need a Congress that recognizes that right now white nationalist forces are weaponizing these forms of oppression to divide our communities, silence our voices, and attack Black and Brown leaders in order to entrench their power;

Whereas, antisemitism in the United States cannot be separated from other forms of bigotry that endanger our families, our communities, and our lives on a daily basis, and have for hundreds of years;

Whereas, any good-faith condemnation of antisemitism must also condemn the Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia, and other forms of oppression being deployed by leaders from the White House to statehouses;

Whereas, to build the inclusive, multiracial democracy that is the only answer to the rampant white nationalism spreading throughout our nation and our democracy, we must not only condemn bigotry, we must combat systems of oppression;

Whereas, Jewish people, Muslim people, people of color, women, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, immigrants, refugees are in the crosshairs, not just of a white nationalist movement that seeks to erase them, but of white nationalist laws and policies that achieve those aims;

Whereas, the only way to keep any of us safe is to keep all of us safe, and any effort to address the oppressions that endanger our lives and threaten our democracy, is to address all oppressions together;

Therefore be it resolved, that We the People,

  1. recognize that antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia, and other forms of oppression are centuries-old tactics used together to divide and conquer;
  2. believe a new America is possible, and will work to create it;
  3. will use our power to condemn, combat, and defeat white nationalism, and build a future where everyone can participate fully in our multi-racial democracy and an equitable economy;
  4. seek to transform our country into a place where everyone can live, love and thrive, and realize this vision of the future as a true representation of American values.
