Honoring the mother of Mothering Justice at the Myra Wolfgang Awards

I’m delighted to announce that Danielle Atkinson and the organization she founded, Mothering Justice, are the 2025 Myra Wolfgang Award Winners for Exemplary Community Partnership. If you’ve been around organizing in Detroit in the past decade, you know that Mothering Justice serves as a model of deeply rooted, effective powerbuilding. Danielle and MJ fight tirelessly for working Michiganders, centering the voices of mothers of color, and empowering them to work toward a future rooted in collective care, justice, and long-term equity.

Mothering Justice has served as a model of deep community building for DJJ, and we have been inspired by their transformative campaigns. We want to particularly honor  Danielle, for her visionary leadership in founding MJ and helping to grow it into the inspiring institution it has become.

Beyond the gift of Mothering Justice, Danielle has given the Detroit organizing community the gift of a strong, effective, and compassionate leader, and we are so excited to celebrate her at the Myra Wolfgang Awards.
