The announcement you've been waiting for:

The 2025 Myra Wolfgang Honorees are...

The moment of truth is here! After announcing Andy Levin’s Myra Wolfgang Award, we have been inundated with requests to share the rest of the honorees! As an organization, we love drama, but we love to give the people what they want even more!

We are honored and privileged to announce the honorees our community has chosen for the 2025 Myra Wolfgang Awards Gala on September 11th, 2025 in New Center, Detroit.

The Myra Wolfgang Award for Exemplary Community Partnership goes to Mothering Justice for their steadfast dedication to centering the needs of mothers of color and building power toward progressive policy change. Mothering Justice has served as a model of deep community building for DJJ and we have been inspired by their campaigns. We want to particularly honor Danielle Atkinson for her visionary leadership in founding Mothering Justice and helping to grow it into the inspiring institution it has become.

The Myra Wolfgang Award for Exemplary Community Leadership goes to Detroit City Council Member Gaby Santiago Romero for her incredible work as City Council Member for District 6, and for bringing her background as an organizer and community advocate to her representation of the District in a time of deep political uncertainty. She has been an unbelievable champion for the city of Detroit and we are inspired by her tenacity and commitment.

The Bobbi Spiegler Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Harriet Saperstein and Alvin Saperstein (of blessed memory) for their lifetime of commitment to preservation of Detroit history, their contributions to creating and maintaining a more just city and world, to education, and Judaism in Detroit. Social justice has been a core part of their identities. We are immensely grateful for their work, rooted in our community and Metro Detroit.

The Myra Wolfgang Award for Jewish Social Justice goes to Andy Levin for his wide-spanning, ongoing career fighting to build a better future.  We look to his leadership on human rights issues, union organizing, public service, and clean energy. This work and his role in founding and creating Detroit Jews for Justice serves as a deep well of resilience and inspiration for our community.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, it’s time to secure your spot and donate as tribute to one or more of our incredible honorees! Stay tuned for more spotlights and chances to learn about them. And start planning your outfit!!
