I just hung up with ex director Rabbi Alana Alpert. I am trying to reach the legislative director for Member of Congress Rashida Tlaib. I do not live in her district and need a way to send her materials on a bill to solve the climate crisis by asking giants of 3 industries to change their way of “manufacturing”. This relates to economic justice because poor people are most effected by these weather events including starvation and death and when it is too hot to go to work but they need to work. Rabbi Alpert said she thought Allie Zeff might be a better person to send materials to the office of Rashida Tlaib. I think this depends on how Allie Zeff views taking on this issue. I know we are a week away from Rosh Hashanah with Selichot tomorrow night. But I would appreciate a note from your new director some time this week followed by a brief call.

PS I was a member of Detroit Jews for Justice for years. I live in New York City but have come to Detroit in the past to support social justice work there. I would like to get an answer from Ms. Zeff by a few days after Yom Kippur. PS I lived in Detroit all my childhood and into my college years.

DJJ is building Jewish political communities we can be proud of—communities based on local and intergenerational relationships, that practice solidarity with all oppressed people, and that embody the world we want to live in. We are building Jewish spaces that center the young, queer, non-white, and disabled among us, spaces that people won’t run away from. We are following the lead of movements of other marginalized groups, and building deep coalitions that will protect each other from the far-right. But in order to do all of this well, we need resources.

DJJ relies on its extended community for a substantial portion of our budget because we need to, but also because it reflects DJJ's commitment to letting our volunteer leaders guide the organization.  If you value the work of local, progressive, Jewish political organizing, donate today to celebrate a breakthrough 2022!

Thank you so much for your generous gift! Your support makes this work possible.
