Freedom Team

We envision system transformation and co-liberation with our marginalized neighbors.

We organize to alter relations of power around issues like White Supremacy, Antisemitism, Islamophobia, Police Accountability, Criminal Justice and Immigration.

LIAISON UPDATES (last updated: 716/2021)

Have you ever asked yourself: What's a 1:1? Well, check out this resource for some tips!

Immigration Justice:

  • Drive MI Forward is a statewide coalition committed to restoring driver’s licenses for all Michigan’s undocumented immigrants, and especially critical now through the pandemic. Take action below to support their current legislative initiatives!
  • Cosecha is having regular meetings at Clark Park that include informational sessions and canvassing events. Visit their Facebook page to learn more!
Police Accountability:
  • Some DJJ folks attended a small workshop about CLEMIS, a police accountability measure that is being rolled out in some surrounding counties.
  • Some DJJ folks also attended a protest in Grosse Pointe Park, where a neighbor was hanging a KKK flag in their house facing their black neighbor’s home. Michigan Liberation provided essential support, which allowed the event to be a success. There might be some momentum for future action, so stay tuned!
  • In June, the Wayne County Core team met to discuss what candidates to endorse.

LGBTQ/Reproductive Justice:

  • We met with some folks from LGBT Detroit recently, Detroit's biggest Black-led queer organization.  We're currently working with them to plan a couple events for DJJ folks to plug into their re-districting efforts, so stay tuned!
  • Anne is seeking a partner in crime to help them in their role!  Interested in being an LGBTQ/Reproductive Justice Liaison? Email at at [email protected].

Shelby 5 Update: Check out this slide show if you're looking for an introduction to why the charges against the Shelby 5 need to be dropped!
