Join us on Monday March 26th to hear about the academic writing of DJJ Leaders Dana & Mikell over coffee and tea. Both Dana and Mikell's research offers phenomenal context for Detroit organizing, exploring themes such as bankruptcy, emergency management, and water access. Stay tuned for more details about the talk and suggested pre-reading!
Dana and Mikell are both Ph.D. Candidates in Sociology at the University of Michigan. In DJJ, Dana is a member of our Campaign Advisory Team and acts as a co-liaison to Land & Housing issues. Mikell liaises to our water justice work, with a focus on supporting People's Water Board Coalition's work on state legislation. Dana's paper "The Structural Origins of Territorial Stigma: Water and Racial Politics in Metropolitan Detroit, 1950s - 2010s" (linked here) was selected by the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research as the best article in the journal for 2016.
